Cloakroom Suite
A cloakroom suite
would normally only consist of a toilet and a small
basin, they are often compact in size and can fit in a
small space. The beauty of the small size of a cloakroom
suite is the fact that they can in many cases be squeezed
in where you would not fit an ordinary bathroom
suite.
In many instances you could fit
one of these suites under the stairs or in a spare corner
upstairs to give you that all important extra
toilet.
To help save space in the
cloakroom some cloakroom suites have back to the wall
toilets, these are where the cistern is concealed on the
other side of the wall to the toilet and this allows the
sometimes much needed extra space and you can also have
wall hung toilets and wall hung basins which once again
save space.
An extra toilet can add value to
your house and the value added could cover the cost of
the installation or maybe even more whilst that cupboard
full of junk will not add any value at all.
The first consideration you have
to make when choosing a cloakroom suite is how much space
you have, if it is a very small space such as under the
stairs then you may only have a little space and this
will very much dictate what type of suite you will need,
whether you will have to have a compact basin and a back
to the wall toilet. Once you have determined your
available space you next need to consider your budget,
how much can you afford to spend? There is a vast array
of suites that you could purchase and they all come with
different price tags and you don?t have to spend a
fortune.
Another consideration is the
location of your planned toilet in relation to the soil
and waste drain, it could be that you want to fit a
toilet on the opposite side of the house to the drain
line and this can mean digging up floors. As an
alternative to digging up floors and in situations where
you cannot easily get to the soil and waste drain in a
conventional manner you could use a macerator and pump
system such as a ?saniflo? unit. These units macerate
(mash up) the waste and pump it through a small diameter
pipe, these units can then pump the waste vertically and
horizontally to the drainpipe. If you do decide to use
one of these units be sure to check that the one you
purchase is suitable to pump the distances which you need
it to travel.
Before commencing with any work on
your new cloakroom suite it is important that you check
to see if you need Building Regulation Approval as you
may well do. In any case it is worth checking the
Building Regulations to ensure that all works are
completed up to those standards.
One last consideration you may
want to give to your new suite is what type of style you
want, you may prefer a contemporary suite or it may be
that you favour a more traditional looking one, you can
be sure to find a huge selection of both at all manner of
prices. The best thing that you can do to ensure that you
don?t pay over the odds is to shop around for a little
while before you take the leap and purchase your new
cloakroom suite.
